L’agence Clément Blanchet Architecture partage avec nous sa proposition finaliste pour le pavillon France Dubaï 2020 qui sera dessiné par l’Atelier du Prado. Ce projet a été mené avec l’architecte Etienne Tricaud d’Arep et de l’entreprise Vinci Grands Projets.

Avant de vous présenter le projet architectural, nous avons interrogé les architectes de l’agence Clément Blanchet Architecture sur la naissance de la collaboration avec Arep : « Notre première collaboration avec l’AREP s’est faite en 2017 pour le concours du quartier de gare ANTONYPOLE dans le cadre des appels à idées IMGP (Inventons la Métropole du Grand Paris) que nous avons remporté. Fort de cette collaboration réussie nous nous sommes rendu compte que nos agences étaient complémentaires et que nous pouvions continuer de nous enrichir mutuellement. C’est ce que nous avons eu la chance de faire une nouvelle fois sur le pavillon ».
Interrogés sur les éléments de complexité du projet, les architectes répondent : « Le plus complexe est surement de trouver une idée, un concept qui soit vrai et juste, qui raconte une manière de faire, de vivre et de penser sans pour autant être une caricature ou une carte postale de la France. Une fois cette idée trouvée il appartient à l’architecte de la formaliser et de la rendre tangible. Beaucoup d’itérations du même concept ont donc vu le jour pendant plusieurs mois jusqu’à ce que nous trouvions un compromis satisfaisant les demandes du client sans corrompre la pureté du message ».
À travers leur proposition, l’agence Clément Blanchet Architecture a donc cherché à connecter les éléments que l’on a l’habitude de confronter. Le monde réel face au mode virtuel, la tradition face à l’innovation.
Cette trajectoire, on la rencontre aujourd’hui aussi dans l’économie où des acteurs du numérique comme Amazon se développe dans les magasins physiques en guise de continuité à l’expérience client en ligne. C’est aussi le cas de ces robots téléconseillers que l’on retrouve dans les agences rurales de Véolia, qui matérialisent la présence à échelle 1 de leurs conseillers tout en garantissant un échange humain entre le client et le conseiller de l’entreprise.
Par suite, la façade minérale qui s’érige devant le parvis qui accueille les visiteurs dresse de grandes pierres, en référence au patrimoine français. Une fois la nuit tombée, celle-ci devient le support du patrimoine culturel français grâce à l’innovation
Le parvis quant à lui, permet d’accéder à la boutique, d’offrir une respiration pour les visiteurs et une aire de jeux pour les enfants.
Une fois que le visiteur traverse cette épaisseur minérale, celui-ci se retrouve plongé dans un Oasis tropical rappelant la verdure de nos campagnes françaises. Cette grande faille laisse également entrevoir le contenu de l’exposition à travers deux volumes qui viennent se suspendre. Les architectes de Clément Blanchet Architecture ont cherché a joué sur la verticalité en échos aux grandes tours construites à Dubaï face à l’horizontalité du désert qui est à proximité.
Construire à Dubaï est relativement différent que de construire en Europe, nous avons donc demandé aux architectes de nous parler des contraintes que leur équipe a rencontré durant la conception du pavillon France : « La première problématique à Dubaï c’est évidemment l’abris, la fraîcheur. Le désert est un environnement rude et peu propice à l’attente dans de longue files. Pour cela nous avons créé un objet entièrement contextualisé par rapport aux vents et au soleil dont la morphologie est auto-protectrice. Nous souhaitions offrir de la fraîcheur et de la nature aux gens, nous avons donc pensé ce projet comme un oasis, dans lequel les plantes poussent à l’abris de la dure lumière du soleil. Ensuite un grand enjeu était celui de construire « local », or à Dubaï les matières locales ne se bousculent pas. On pourrait croire qu’une solution en béton soit raisonnable puisque tout le sable nécessaire pourrait être pris directement dans le désert … Pour autant, le sable dubaïote est impropre à la construction, faisant de Dubaï l’un des plus gros importateurs de sable au monde … Pour cela nous avons cherché à construire avec ce sable en utilisant un système de gabions repensé pour à la fois tenir le pavillon mais également servir de mur poids pour permettre des fondations superficielles. Ce qui est intéressant c’est que l’équipe de Franklin Azzi est également partie sur cette voie en utilisant le sable dans la façade, de manière très élégante et dramatique ».
Pour la construction du pavillon France, l’équipe avait prévu de mettre en place un système de gabion de sable pour recevoir des fondations superficielles facilement déplaçables. Ces modules en acier contiennent des sacs en toiles remplis de sable. Comme énoncé précédemment par l’architecte, ce système permettait d’utiliser le sable local dans la construction, sable qui ne peut être utilisé dans le béton.
Concernant l’enveloppe du bâtiment, la structure métallique est boulonnée, les planchers ont été imaginé en CLT. Enfin les parois sont recouvertes d’un métal déployé à nu de la structure. L’empreinte carbone du pavillon France était limitée lors de son démontage puis que les éléments qui lestent le projet (fondation, mur végétal) sont restitués à son site puisqu’il s’agit du sable local.
La proposition architecturale n’a pas séduit le jury, toutefois l’agence en dresse un bilan positif, comme en témoigne l’agence Clément Blanchet Architecture : « C’est avant toute chose un projet qui s’est construit en équipe. Aux côtés de Vinci Grands Projet, Etienne Tricaud et l’Arep, Operel, les ingénieurs structure de MAP3, environnementaux de chez Franck Boutté, fluides de chez Terrel … En bref nous avons eu la chance de travailler avec de nombreuses personnes extrêmement compétentes et de former une équipe soudée tout au long du dialogue. Il est indéniable que cette expérience nous a tous beaucoup profité et que nous avons appris les uns des autres, non sans quelques frictions créatives bien sûr ! Ensuite, et bien évidemment, la conception d’un pavillon d’expo universelle pour son pays est une chance qui ne se présente pas tous les jours. Chacun d’entre nous en était conscient durant tout l’exercice ce qui nous a naturellement porté et poussé à donner le meilleur de nous-même. Nous restons heureux d’avoir participé à ce concours malgré son issue ».
